I’ve outgrown my childhood dreams and it sucks

I’m 25 and sadly that means that it’s unlikely that I’m going to be drafted to the Bombers. (Pod’s got drafted at 26 so there’s still a chance). I should hang around Windy Hill and whenever someone walks out I should show off some banana kicks. If I want to make it, I really need to get my act together. Next year I’ll turn my attention to cricket. Mike Hussey debuted for Australia at 30 so I still have plenty of time to practice. I would love to be in the sports industry.

It would have been fun to be a pilot although my obsession with Air Crash Investigations wouldn’t have looked good. If I was better in front of a camera, making a show like Tosh.0 would be great.

Can you have mid-life crises at 25? Sometimes it feels like that. Am I doing what I’m supposed to be doing in life?

When I was a kid I didn’t really have any specific dreams. I knew I would most likely end up being like a character on ‘Office Space’ and in a way, that’s kind of what happened. I’m thankful that I ended up at working for a company that I really like. If I can get an opportunity soon at a higher level I can see myself staying there for the rest of my life.

I really shouldn’t make a post without commenting more on the footy. Damn Collingwood, damn them all. It’s quite amazing how many 1 point games I have been to in my life. That was probably the worst feeling I had leaving a game. Losing to Collingwood really hurts, especially when you’re up with a couple of minutes to go. The 3 worst losses I can remember is the 2001 Grand Final, last year’s prelim between Hawks and Pies and yesterday.

I’m sure I’ll feel great after Essendon beat Brisbane next Saturday. It sucks that it’s still eight days away.

Final Eight Prediction

1. Collingwood
2. Geelong
3. Hawthorn
4. West Coast
5. Carlton
6. St. Kilda
7. Essendon
8. Fremantle

9. Sydney
10. Melbourne
11. Richmond
12. North Melbourne
13. Western Bulldogs
14. Adelaide
15. Brisbane
16. Gold Coast
17. Port Adelaide

1st Qualifying Final – Collingwood V West Coast – Friday night. Collingwood come out with pressure on the ball carrier we haven’t seen before this year. First quarter margin will be close to five goals and will remain that margin until the last where the Pies will kick ahead. BOG : Pendelbury, most goals, Dawes with three

2nd Qualifying Final – Geelong V Hawthorn – Saturday night. Geelong will go in heavy favourites but we will see the Hawks win this one in a extremely tight game. Buddy is the star kicking six in a best on ground performance.

1st Elimination Final – Carlton V Fremantle – Saturday. Fremantle limping into the finals will be no match for Carlton. The blues will win this one easily by around ten goals and the Blues fans will have a glimmer of hope that Carlton can go all the way but that will get squashed the following week. Murphy best on ground with Garlett popping up with five. His only goals of the finals campain.

2nd Elimination Final – St. Kilda V Essendon – Sunday. This will be match of the round. The Saints and Essendon put in all on the line and the margin is never more than a couple of goals. Watson BOG, Big Hurley with another bag of four.

1st Semi Final – West Coast V Carlton – Friday night. No one can match West Coast over there. The rest of Melbourne rejoices in the fact that Carlton are out of the finals race again. For the hell of it, Carlton were up at three quarter time again. Cox best on with a mixed bag of two and three goal kickers.

2nd Semi Final – Geelong V Essendon – Saturday night. Essendon will put up a fight but will fall short. If the margin is more than four goals at three quarter time it could get really ugly for the Bombers. Hurley kicks four again but Selwood ends up BOG.

1st Preliminary Final – Collingwood V Geelong – Friday night. This is the upset very one has been waiting for Geelong somehow pull off a victory in a tight game. Chapman best on with Mooney kicking four

2nd Preliminary Final – Hawthorn V West Coast – A very unlikely prelim. Hawthorn will be in control for most of the game. Buddy again stands up but Hodge is BOG.

Grand Final – Geelong V Hawthorn – It’s a rematch of the 2008 final and lives up to that game. Rioli as always shows some magic, but it’s the new Cats coming up with the chocolates. It’ll be three flags in five years for the team, putting them up as one of the great teams in the modern era. In a close Norm Smith, Selwood comes out on top. Buddy kicks his three but so does Pods.

Recovery Time

Today has been a day where I haven't left the house. We all had a great night last night at our Will Ferrell Party. Highlights include the trivia, Justin getting hammered, Justin hitting his head, Gabby/Candice's costumes, Waterfalls, Double Blacks, Kebab Pizza, Pringles, Anchorman, NO shots and Xbox references. This morning though, a lot of us were worst for wear.
I can't believe the pizza shop hung up on us saying they weren't going to deliver then delivered to us after we called back with an alter ego 20 mins later.
Everyone came in with a good attitude and it was great to catch up with some peeps I hadn't seen in months.
I also won in Monopoly again today. It was great to be back on top. I played a couple of games of Fifa. I kicked a cracking goal from outside the box. Now I'm watching a doco on the history of biology.
I'm tossing up if I should back up again tonight and have some drinks while watching the footy. There really isn't a reason why I'm not going to the game apart from Laziness. It's great being lazy. We are going to the WB V Carl game tomorrow though.

Essendon Bombers Player Review

2011 List

1 - Jay Neagle - To slow to be an AFL player. Has a long strong kick and is a good mark but that just isn't good enough, especially when you aren't hungry enough
2 - Ricky Dyson - Has a great left foot but isn't smart enough not has the heart to play AFL. Both he and Jay will be delisted at season’s end
3 - Scott Gumbelton - A lot of natural ability but injuries are killing his career. He still has 2012 and maybe even 2013 to prove himself. People have called to trade him while he still has value, I completely disagree.
4 – Jobe Watson – Our captain. He had issues with his foot skills at the start of his career but he has got over that. He wasted a couple of years playing him at centre half forward.
5 – Brent Stanton – Our best runner. Receives a lot of criticism and a lot is unjustified. Not many realise just how important he is to our side. He will always be in our best 22.
6 – Angus Monfries – Again, he is so important to our team structurally. He can play the defensive forward but he is best used as a lead up player, a link in the chain.
7 – Leroy Jetta – Turning into a great player but will never even attempt a contested mark
8 – Jason Winderlich – His run helps us out so much, in fact, it is one of the main reasons we had our mid season slump was him going down with the knee
9 – Brent Prismall – Came to the Bombers with exceptional skills but has lost so much confidence playing under Matthew Knights. He is a classic example of how a good team can make a player look so much better than they actually are. I still can’t believe Chad Fletcher won an All Australian
10 – Mark McVeigh – He is still one of my favourites but has had an average year. His best position is playing one kick behind the ball and setting up.
11 – David Zaharakis – One of my current favourites. He has the ability to become one of our best if not our best player. He has great foot skills, will build up great endurance and incredible vision. He is one to watch
12 – Andrew Welsh – Past his best, I would delist at season’s end.
13 – Anthony Long – Has a lot of natural ability but is being killed by soft tissue injuries.
14 – Sam Lonergan – Love his tough work in the middle. His skills are good enough so he should progress into a decent ten year player.
15 – Courtney Dempsey – Had a slow start to his year due to hamstring injuries but over the last three years he has turned into a good player. We are missing him this year as well
16 – Tayte Pears – He is so good he will be better than Michael Hurley
17 – Jake Melksham – Incredible vision, all the guts in the world. He will be a player
18 – Michael Hurley – Great guts, skills and body shape. He should turn into one of the best players in the AFL. I still worry at times at his pace.
19 – David Hille – Played some great footy when he got a couple of years of injury free footy. He has lost all his confidence and with Belly in the wings, he will have less than 50 games in him
20 – Henry Slattery – Plays with a lot of guts and normally keeps the small forward quiet. He is a decent player
21 – Dyson Heppell – Gee, what can you say about this boy. We haven’t seen a better first year from a player since Rama? Surely not. The kid is all class. His ability to stay composed when the pressure is on him is just great. One concern is that the way he plays he will be very susceptible to a tag.
22 – Jake Carlisle – A tad undersized for to play KP but he has some skill.
23 – David Myers – One of our best clearance players. He will progress into a great player in a couple of years.
24 – Alex Browne – Haven’t seen enough of him. I don’t think he will make it.
25 – Ariel Steniberg – He may end up becoming a great player. Good endurance.
26 – Cale Hooker – Will be a ten year player for us. Has great closing speed.
27 – Luke Davis – I haven’t seen him play yet
28 – Darcy Daniher – Injury prone. Can’t see him getting into the side with the so many other KPP players ahead of him
29 – Alwyn Davey – What has happened to him? He burst onto the scene. That knee injury really slowed him down.
30 – Patrick Ryder – He will be a great player. People have to remember that he is still only 23 years old. He will be playing his best footy in 3-4 years time.
31 – Dustin Fletcher – Served the club so well for years and years. I think this year will be his last.
32 – Travis Coyler – All the speed in the world. He could make it.
33 – Mark Williams – It was a waste of a trade. He wasn’t the player we needed. He will be delisted soon.
34 – Kyle Hardingham – I like him in defence. He does provide us with some run.
35 - Taite Silverlock – I don’t think he will make it
36 – Tyson Slattery – Again, I don’t think he will make it
37 – Kyle Reimers – Good player with great skills. He will make it.
38 – Michael Ross – I haven’t seen him play
39 – Heath Hocking – I love the way he plays footy. He is super important to us in the middle.
40 – Ben Howlett – He is a great back up to Watson, Lonergan and Hocking. He is an example that if you don’t have all the talent but have the heart then you can make it at AFL level.
41 – Michael Quinn – I can’t believe he has stayed on the list for this long. He is a good VFL player but that’s it.
42 – NLM – Useless. Delist
43 – Michael Hibbard – He has the biggest heart in the side. He wills himself to every contest and tries his guts out every game. If you could put his effort with someone with a skill (like a Damien Cupido) you would get a Brownlow winner (James Hird)
44 – Tom Bellchambers – He will be our No.1 ruckman soon. I was very happy to hear he resigned.
45 – Stuart Crameri – I’m not the biggest fan of him. He does have great hands but doesn’t do much else for the team.
46 – Josh Jenkins – I like this kid. Plays with a lot of heart. He will play for the senior side one day
47 – James Webster – I don’t think he will make it.

I didn't think we had any chance beating the Cats last night. I was great!

How I wish I was rich but not famous

Medium night tonight. Started with a work get together in the afternoon. It was great to catch up with work peeps socially as we never get the chance to do it much. I could see that there was a small but determined bunch of people there. It would of been great to kick on with them.
I then went over to ES to watch the mighty Bulldogs play. I love going into games when I am do damn confident of a result and it actually happens. I somehow knew that the Bulldogs were going to win and win easily. It happened. I haven’t had a drink since the Tassie trip so it was great to come back and have a few quiet ones while watching the 90’s countdowns. TLC still have some great tracks.
Liam Jones will not have a long AFL career. He doesn’t have the correct attitude to make it. Also he doens’t know how to use his body, doesn’t know how to lead correctly and doesnt’ know how to use inside runners. I am extremely surprised that the Bulldogs persist with him for so long. How I wish the Bombers can somehow pull something out tomorrow night.
Does anyone else ever notice similar trends in video clips? I’m currently watching a David Guetta video. He is off high fiving some random people while walking into a party. He does this EVERY single video. It’s getting old Dave. Chili Peppers liked showing skin as much as possible, flo rida loved showing his tats. Foo Fighters loved showing extreme close ups of Grohl’s face. Tool loved having claymations. Bon Jovi loved showing the band loving life and having a good time. Character models get stuck into bands and actors. Will Jason Biggs ever to a serious movie? I highly doubt it. Will Snoop ever write another song again. He is hell bent on only doing cameo’s at the end of other peoples songs. I guess that that’s easier for him.
Tomorrow I have to try and find some clothes to make up the John Ferrell character from Jay and Silent Bob. It will be so hard. If I can find a green shirt and a awesome cap I think I can pull it off.

TV

As I sit here watching AFL 360 I was trying to work out which AFL show is my favourite. No doubt that 360 is one of my favourites but I'll have to stick with 'On the Couch'. It's a great show and Paul Roos adds so much knowledge to the show. Surprisingly the Offsiders, channel two on Sunday morning ranks up there as well. The show isn't specifically an AFL show, as it talks about all sports.

Cartoons have been such a big part of my TV life. I would love to know how many times I have seen my favourite eps like Homer goes to college. I honestly think that it would be 30-50 times. Although The Simpsons has been a long time great, it isn't my favourite cartoon. Futurama happily sits on top of the list. I love the show and can't get enough of it. Although I haven't sat down to watch the eps in a long time, I look forward to doing it soon. I just don't have the time to watch much DVD's anymore. The first four series of Futurama was amazing, the four movies (which ended up being series five) were ok too but series six was getting back to its best. American Dad is also a great one, much better than Family Guy. South Park has some classic episodes as well. I love the ep where Butters gets a Ninja star stuck in his eye.

Candice has come in now. Apparently I've never told her that I have a blog. The truth is I've told her twice but if she is doing something else when I'm talking to her, things don't stick in her memory.

Anyway, back to the TV. I love shows like Weeds, Dexter, House, Lost etc. Weeds is great as you get stuck in with the characters so quickly. Doug is so damn funny. I watch a lot of Sitcoms as well. My all time favourite (and favourite show ever) is the Drew Carey Show. I still don't understand why it wasn't more popular. You can't even get the whole series on DVD. I can't wait until they bring it out. My name is earl, viva la bam, scrubs, arrested development, how I met your mother, mighty boosh etc are all great sitcoms. I never thought it would watch Big Bang, but I get a lot of laughs out of that as well, Modern Family too.

Breakout Kings is a new show that I have got into, How to make it in America is another good new show. Something a bit left of centre is 'It's always sunny in Philly'. It's a great comedy but it's very different to a lot of other sitcoms.

Seinfeld is a golden oldie. This was a show that took me a lot time to get into. As a kid I was never a fan of it. I put it in the same light as Becker, Just Shoot Me and Fraser. Ohhhh Fraser was so bad. Seinfeld would be the best show at having continuous jokes. It was also great at somehow make their a and b plots come together at the end of an episode.

X-Files was another show I used to watch a lot of. There was a lot of eps that spooked me. Survivors, The Colony etc are a new breed of this type of show that I also have fallen in love with. No one else ever remembers 'it's a knock out' but I used to love that show. It was an Aussie version of Techeshi's Castle but it was spilt into state vs state. Victoria always sucked at it.

There would be so many more shows but I can't think of anymore off the top of my head.

Candice hurry up with the dinner, it's 8.19pm and I'm still waiting!
